Louis Poulsen PH 3½-3 Glass Pendant Suspension Lamp

Louis Poulsen PH 3½-3 Glass Pendant is a lamp designed by Poul Henningsen in 1958. This pendant lamp is part of the series of lamps designed by Henningsen in the late '20s and early '30s and featuring his famous three-screen system, so the initials "PH" are accompanied by a number indicating the size of the main screen of the pendant. Henningsen, therefore, designed not just one lamp, but an entire system: about a thousand different models have been produced over the years. Thanks to this type of design, Henningsen was able to achieve a uniform distribution of light over the entire curve of the screen. This uniform distribution, together with the diffuse reflection through the glass, allowed him to control glare and shadows. Each screen reduces the amount of light to the same extent due to their distance from the light source.
The shades are mouth-blown three-layer opal glass, which is glossy on top and sandblasted matt underneath to provide soft and uniform light distribution.
