Materials & finishes

ash wood, Metal

The Cassina Beugel chair, designed by Gerrit Rietveld in 1927, is a chair with metal frame and seat in painted wood.
Beugel is the emblem of Gerrit Rietveld's attitude, experimentation and separation of elements.

The two metal frames are placed at the sides and support the varnished wooden seat available in five colours, natural, amaranth, mud, petroleum and black.
The seat, once made of plywood, was later replaced by the stronger laminated wood, thanks also to the industrial processes that allow a large scale production. The profile is defined by the elegant curvature of the shell, which revolves around the upper part of the backrest and now boasts a more ergonomic line thanks to the use of 3D technology. The ultra-thin metal structure has been further lightened by reducing the diameter to 15 mm.

Currently also available a limited edition in 3 variations, pearl white, blue and mustard, 200 for each colour for a total of 600 pieces.
This version has been customized by Dutch artist Joost Swarte with a monogram that pays tribute to the Cartesian knot on which Rietveld based his research to develop the joint of his iconic Red and Blue chair.
