Cassina Superleggera Chair
45 x 41 x h. 83 cm.
Ash Painted, India cane, Natural Ash
The Cassina Superleggera Chair, designed by Gio Ponti, is a historical symbol of Italian design. The name Superleggera, project 699, derives from the fact that it weighs just 1.7 kg and can be lifted with one finger.
Produced since 1957, the Superleggera wooden chair represents an exclusive synthesis of the architect's research and the Meda-based company's advanced experimentation, becoming an undisputed icon and masterpiece of modernity for its extreme craftsmanship.
Gio Ponti described it as an ordinary chair, light, thin and convenient: the very characteristics that every object in common use should possess. Its original style makes it a timeless symbol of excellence in typical Italian design.
A chair that took years to perfect, working on the triangular section of the legs of just 18 millimetres to reach the current minimum weight of just 1,700 grams.
Available with: structure in natural, white or black open-pore stained ash with upholstered seat and fabric or leather cover; structure in two-tone white/black lacquered ash with upholstered seat and cover in white leather or graphite leather only.
